….with a grant of nearly £4,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All Fund
Paul Sartori Hospice at Home is delighted to announce that they have recently been awarded this grant funding to improve the experience for the hearing impaired in Pembrokeshire.
With the grant, the charity will be able to enhance the support to those with a hearing loss who access its services. The aim is to provide support in various settings in the community including those who visit the charity; those who visit their charity shops and will be of benefit to patients with any life-limiting illness; carers, family members, staff and volunteers.
Various items of equipment including personal listening devices, headphones and neck loops have been purchased, making up Personal Listening Packs. Furthermore, Portable Induction Desk Loop Systems are to be trialled at two charity shops in the county – Sartori Furnishings, Havens Head Retail Park, Milford Haven and Sartori Furnishings & Style, Bridge Street, Haverfordwest.
Additionally, working alongside ‘RNID Louder than Words’ a variety of training will be rolled out to include: Deaf Awareness and Start to Sign courses. These will be offered to staff and volunteers to increase awareness of the difficulties that the hearing-impaired community face and ensure more understanding exists around the accessibility issues faced by people with a hearing loss.
Results from a survey provided a need for the project and highlighted how hearing loss can be very isolating; little appreciated by the public at large and is a hidden disability. “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from the National Lottery. We are certain that this project will address many issues and barriers that hearing loss can present. We are looking forward to develop this project and making a real impact”, said Judith Williams, Grant Development Officer. The charity hopes that this project will enable them to support more people and will greatly improve the experience for individuals at end of life with a hearing difficulty. This investment is part of an ongoing commitment to improve access across all services within the charity. It is hoped that this project will shape further planned improvements in this area.
