The West Wales Karting annual charity challenge was once again held in aid of Paul Sartori Hospice at Home; at the track on Withybush Showground during October. This event brings out the competitive racing drivers every year, and it raises vital funds to support people in the later stages of any life-limiting illness. There were over 250 drivers making up 60 teams in the competition this year.

The challenge is held over 7 nights with the winning team from each night going through to the final. The following teams reached the final this year; Riverlea Whitland, Gareth Hughes Motors, RM Labels, LH Electrical, Rhos Cottage Dental, Garej Wyn and KP Thomas. It was extremely close in the final, which had the spectators on the edge of their seats, but for the 3rd year running KP Thomas were crowned Champions.

The Adrian Harrold Memorial Shield is awarded to the team who raise the highest amount of sponsorship. This year Rhos Cottage Dental scooped the award by raising a staggering £812.00. This event would not take place if it was not for the support of West Wales Karting, John Harries, sponsors and teams; Gravells – Kia of Narberth, Fred Rees Skoda Garage, Pure West Radio and all of the Paul Sartori Volunteers.

The whole event raised an amazing £12,634.20 which will help to continue the vital services throughout Pembrokeshire; including home nursing care, equipment loan, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, under 18’s anticipatory grief and bereavement support, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training.

“We are extremely grateful for the support we receive from West Wales Karting, the sponsors and teams that take part, without whom we would not raise these vital funds to continue providing the end-of-life care in Pembrokeshire. Over the last three years this event has raised an amazing £31,960” Said Sandra Dade, Charity Manager at Paul Sartori Hospice at Home.
