How cancer treatment affects the skin and the oncology skincare specialist who can help
It’s not something you really think about until you experience a cancer diagnosis yourself, but finding appropriate skincare products that also help to relieve the side effects of some cancer treatments can be a real challenge and a source of anxiety.
How cancer treatment affects the skin
Cancer treatments can cause the skin to be extremely sensitive, and often that sensitivity can change as treatment progresses. It can mean that you have reactions to different skincare ingredients, and that reaction may differ over time.
While definitive knowledge of what you are and are not sensitive to is a matter of trial and error, there are certain natural ingredients that have an affinity with sensitive skin, and can help skin that is experiencing the side effects of cancer treatment.
The oncology skincare specialist who can help
Knowing which products can help, can be a challenge, but finding the right product that is a pleasure to use can be a calming, nurturing, and even empowering experience for many.
Beauty Despite Cancer’s product collection was created by Jennifer Young, the recognised expert in specialist skincare for those living with and beyond cancer. Jennifer began her work formulating skincare products that are safe and effective for cancer patients when her local NHS hospital asked her to work with them and create specialist skincare and cosmetics for those going through treatment. She has since developed over 300 specialist products to treat the effects of cancer treatment on the body.
We’re giving away Jennifer Young skincare products
Throughout October, Jennifer Young is gifting ten thousand skincare products, distributing them through charities that have been nominated by those they have helped, of which we are one.
Products included in the giveaway are the Defiant Beauty Nail Oil (4g) and the Defiant Beauty Healing Hand Balm (15g). The Defiant Beauty Nail Oil is a gentle, moisturising oil designed to care for brittle nails whilst going through or recovering from the effects of cancer treatment.
Meanwhile, the Defiant Beauty Healing Hand Balm is a gentle multi-tasking balm that acts as a hand mask, nail moisturiser and a hand cream to soothe and restore the skin.
Jennifer said: “Everything we do at Jennifer Young and Beauty Despite Cancer, is about supporting individuals each day of their cancer experience. Reducing skin irritation and soreness, creating nurturing rituals from everyday routines and giving a sense of restoration and care are invaluable when you’re experiencing something as challenging as cancer and cancer treatment. Knowing that options are available, and that you are not alone, can make a huge difference to how someone feels. The small and independent charities, hospices and support organisations are incredibly important in delivering that message of care and community, which is why we aim to provide sustainable support to them in the work that we do. It is important to us that the charities we help are those that reflect the experiences of our customers, and this month is an opportunity to celebrate that connected support network between products, charities and clients.”
