Local, Pembrokeshire-based charity, Paul Sartori Hospice at Home together with Sandy Bear children’s bereavement charity, is supporting Dying Matters Week (8th – 14th May 2023), an annual event organised by Hospice UK. Events are organised to highlight the importance of talking openly about the difficult topics of death, dying and bereavement in a supportive environment.

Paul Sartori Future Care Planning Service Lead, Fay Morley, has invited Artistic Licence Theatre Company to perform two plays to highlight Dying Matters Week and these will be performed at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Sunday 14th May and Wild Lakes Wales, Martletwy on Thursday 18th May. Both venues will have representatives from Paul Sartori and Sandy Bears who will be available to provide practical support.
“Operation Hummingbird” is a play looking at the experiences of Jimmy an eleven-year-old whose mother is diagnosed with a terminal illness through the eyes of his grown up self. And the award winning “Colder Than Here” is a bittersweet black comedy tackling the difficulties of a dysfunctional family grappling with the final months of their mum’s life. Somehow, they find the light even in the darkest of times.
Fay says, “We are excited to be hosting these plays around Dying Matters Week. We know the importance of talking about death, dying and bereavement and feel that these performances offer a springboard to open up discussions on these topics.”

Tenby-born Actor Charles Dale, who is best known for appearing in the BBC 1 series Casualty, and ITV soap opera Coronation Street, also hopes to attend the event at the Torch Theatre, being a Paul Sartori and Torch Theatre Patron. He is a passionate supporter of the charity and has personal experience of how valuable the services offered by Paul Sartori Hospice at Home are.
